I have a different perspective than the first reviewer. The rankings are totally independent of the narratives that appear for each president which are oral interviews of experts on each president. In fact, several of the narratives tend to belie the high rank of some of the presidents by pointing out some really bad character traits of some of our best presidents.. I was hoping the book would discuss in detail why each president was ranked where they were. Instead you get a kind of stream of consciousness, antidotal discussion by the “experts.” Some readers will like this but I was disappointed. The book starts off admirably by explaining the ranking process and how the ranks change over time but then devolves into the folksy narratives I described. To each his own but it’s not what I was expecting.
